The first year of Future Educators of America was filled with activity related to organizing and beginning a chapter of an international group at Hunterdon Central Regional High School [HCRHS] in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. We started the year with fifteen eager students, and ended with about nine. People found it was a commitment of time since we met every Thursday throughout the school year. We also elected officers, participated in community service activities, and attended the statewide convention where we presented a poster created from the year one activities. At the end of the year, our advisor Lynn Szczeck attended a workshop run by the state of New Jersey which offers a sample curriculum for students most interested in teaching.

One community service activity was to staff the "Kids Vote" which attempted to encourage grade school children to be involved in the electoral process and vote for school topics at the local school elections, as their parents cast their votes at school budget time. Another activity was to offer quality activities at the high school for young children as their parents had a shopping night out in the community to prepare for the holidays. This activity was very popular, with the FEA reading children's books to the youngsters who participated. Finally, the club created a "Prom Night" training powerpoint which they presented to their peers who participate in the EKWIPS program. The students and staff who participated in this activity really enjoyed the enthusiasm and the technical knowledge shared by our club members, who all wish to become teachers themselves one day.

At the end of the school year 2008-09, we inducted ten members into the national chapter. The requirements for induction included participation in six (6) community service activity hours which had to be related to education and attendance at 80% of the club meetings. In addition, we inducted six members into the national honor society Phi Delta Kappa (student chapter) since they were also able to acheive a 3.0 GPA or higher throughout the same school year. We also attended the state convention held at Montclair State University in May as another of our culminating activities.
